Security guard seriously injured in refugee accommodation

A security guard was fatally injured in a knife attack in a German refugee shelter on Thursday morning. The police are frantically searching for the fugitive perpetrator.

Following the violent attack on the grounds of a refugee shelter in the German city of Potsdam, the police have identified a suspect and are searching for him.

Perpetrator is not believed to be a resident of the refugee shelter
The public prosecutor's office and police announced on Thursday afternoon: "As part of initial investigations, a suspect has already been identified by name." According to the "Bild" newspaper, it is not a resident of the accommodation. The manhunt has so far been unsuccessful. A homicide squad is investigating.

Former hotel as a crime scene
A security guard on the grounds of the asylum accommodation was fatally injured during the violent confrontation. The police launched a large-scale operation and the area near Park Sanssouci was cordoned off and searched. The refugee accommodation is in a former hotel called "Schlossgarten".

The police announced that a security guard had been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and had died there in the morning. The Potsdam public prosecutor's office is investigating on suspicion of homicide. Extensive forensics are being carried out at the crime scene. As the investigation is still at a very early stage, the authorities did not wish to provide any further details about the crime.
