Fight for survival! European Cup is no longer an issue

The clock is ticking! The handball girls in Ferlach will miss out on the European Cup next season. But it gets even worse! Because in Rosental they don't know whether they will be playing in the domestic league next season. . .

Days of decision for Ferlach's handball girls. Following the departure of section manager Wolfi Buchbauer, the club has been working hard to secure the future of the first division team. After a board meeting on Wednesday, however, it is now clear that a third European Cup appearance in a row is no longer an issue. "We have other worries! We don't even know if it makes sense to enter the domestic league this year," says sports manager Dean Pomorisac.

Career end possible for veterans
A clarifying discussion with all the players next Wednesday should bring a decision. The veterans Anna Kavalar, Luisa Senitza and Kathi Fritz are all set to retire. "The others also have to commit to the club - depending on how many do that, we will decide how to proceed," says Pomorisac. "With seven to eight good players, we could fill the rest with our U18s - and try to at least survive the next season!"

It all depends on the players
The entry deadline for the WHA runs until June 12, and the budget is similar to last year's. "The club is doing its best to keep things going - but now it's also up to the players," says Pomorisac.
