Fire in apartment building: arson again?

52 firefighters were deployed in Perg on Friday evening after a fire broke out in the basement of an apartment building. The following day, the investigators had to come to the conclusion: A technical defect can be ruled out, but arson by no means.

When the emergency services arrived at the apartment building in Perg at around 6 p.m. on Friday, thick smoke was already billowing out of the cellar. The fire department - deployed with a total of 52 firefighters - had to work their way into the cellar area piece by piece. At 7.15 pm, the fire was declared "out". There was considerable damage to the building, but fortunately no one was injured.

Technical cause ruled out
However, the police are now investigating. The day after the fire, the experts from the fire prevention office and the fire investigators from the police were unable to determine a technical defect as the cause of the fire. Arson is therefore the cause - again.

Two cases of arson
Two cases of arson have already occupied Upper Austria in recent weeks - as reported by the "Krone" newspaper. First, a 19-year-old female firefighter was arrested on suspicion of arson in Goldwörth and Feldkirchen an der Donau. And in Bad Ischl, an 18-year-old is said to have started a cellar fire.
