Kleinwalsertal is “isolated” at night

Kleinwalsertal, which is only accessible via Germany, will be cut off from the outside world at night for several weeks due to renovation work on the B19 in the neighboring Bavarian municipality of Oberstdorf. 

Unsurprisingly, there is little rejoicing in the de facto enclave about this isolation enforced by Germany. However, the responsible building authority in Kempten (Germany) emphasized that the construction measures were "urgently necessary". At the same time, those responsible pointed out that, following intensive discussions with the companies carrying out the work, it had at least been possible to limit the number of full closures to an expected 13 nights.

From today, Monday, up to and including June 20, the B19 will be closed to traffic from Monday to Thursday between 8 pm and 6 am. The good news for the many tourism businesses in the valley is that the road will remain open at weekends. Rescue vehicles and the emergency medical team are exempt from the night-time closures.

However, if the weather does not cooperate, further closures may be necessary.
