Wrongly parked BMW caused streetcar chaos in Vienna

This is not the first time that an incorrectly parked car has blocked the path of a streetcar in Vienna. On Monday morning, emergency services had to be called out again to move an incorrectly parked BMW. The public transport chaos was not long in coming. 

Several times a day, an incorrectly parked car blocks the path of a streetcar or bus in Vienna. Last year, the fines for this were even tripled. Instead of the previous 128 euros, drivers now have to pay a fine of 365 euros. Nevertheless, there are still regular reports of "wrong parking".

Four streetcars blocked
This time there was a real traffic jam in Hormayrgasse in Hernals. Line 9 was unable to continue due to an incorrectly parked BMW. Within a very short space of time, four streetcars were waiting in a row to continue their journey. Much to the annoyance of many public transport users.

Long waiting times
There was no sign of the driver, so the fire department had to be called out to move the car into the correct parking space. The drivers and passengers had no choice but to wait. According to Wiener Linien, operations of this kind can take more than an hour.

Wiener Linien therefore repeatedly appeals to drivers to be particularly careful when parking in order to prevent delays of this kind and thus avoid high fines.
