Two people found dead in detached house

A tragedy may have occurred on Monday afternoon in a detached house in St. Stefan ob Leoben. Neighbors heard gunshots and called the police - the officers found two bodies.

The police received an emergency call at around 4.30 p.m. on Monday: Neighbors had heard gunshots in a single-family home in St. Stefan ob Leoben. When the officers arrived on the scene and went into the house, they found two people - a woman and a man - with fatal gunshot wounds. Two weapons were also seized - it is not yet clear whether these were the weapons used in the crime.

According to the investigators' initial findings, the woman may have been fleeing from the man, as she was discovered outside. However, this has not yet been confirmed, according to a spokesperson for the Styrian Provincial Police Directorate.

The background to the crime is also not yet known, and the police have not yet confirmed the identity of the two deceased. Both are believed to have been around 50 years old.

House was apparently unoccupied
It is suspected that it was a case of murder and suicide. According to initial information, the man is said to have been lying dead in the house. However, the building was not inhabited, according to the initial findings. Further details are not expected until Tuesday, according to the Provincial Police Directorate. The Styrian State Office of Criminal Investigation has taken over the investigation.
