Suspected chlorine gas leak in detached house

Yesterday, Monday evening, the Pfarrwerfen volunteer fire department was called to an incident in the district of Pöham. There was a suspected leak of chlorine gas.

On Monday evening, there was suddenly an acrid smell in the air at a detached house in Pfarrwerfen-Pöham. Residents alerted the fire department. Two people were also thought to be trapped. On site, however, it quickly turned out that the woman and toddler had already left the house safely.

A breathing apparatus unit went into the cellar to investigate. They quickly discovered water damage in the cellar. A hose had come loose from a pool treatment system, causing water to run out of the pool into the cellar. Apparently, liquid chlorine had also escaped from two canisters that were connected to the treatment system.

Already the 13th operation this month
The breathing protection team reconnected the disconnected hose to prevent further chlorine leaks. The building was then ventilated intensively with the pressure fan until the premises could be re-entered. The chlorine water was then extracted from the cellar using the wet vacuum cleaner.

This was the 13th operation of the Pfarrwerfen fire department in June. The firefighters have been called upon time and again to deal with highway accidents on the A10. This time they were deployed with 35 men.
