Major damage in agriculture too

Flooded fields and washed away soil after the heavy storms: this is the picture throughout Burgenland. Southern Burgenland was hit the hardest, but there was also considerable damage in the north. 

The masses of rain over the past few days have also caused major damage to agriculture. Heavy rain, storms and hail have caused apocalyptic conditions in some areas. The hail insurance company reported total damage of 500,000 euros in the districts of Oberwart and Neusiedl am See. Arable crops were particularly affected.

The Burgenland Chamber of Agriculture therefore also submitted a report to Agrarmarkt Austria (AMA) - as a control body for compliance with cultivation requirements, such as mowing times, ground cover, etc. The exceptional events were pointed out. "Non-compliance with requirements should not also lead to sanctions from the AMA," says the Chamber of Agriculture. "The affected farms have suffered enough damage."

The Chamber is therefore providing support in assessing the damage. This is because there are so many people affected that hail insurance alone would hardly be able to cope. "In such an exceptional situation, everyone has to stand together to help - the federal government, the state, the hail insurance company and the Chamber," explains Chamber of Agriculture President Nikolaus Berlakovich. Farmers can also contact the district offices at any time if they need help.
