Celebrating the colorful diversity of Neutorgasse

The Neutorviertel is facing an important moment: the finalization of the first construction phase of the inner city relief project. Before Neutorgasse is opened to all road users on 8 July, there will be a colorful program for young and old on 5 and 6 July. Together with the businesses from the district and La Strada Graz, the people of Graz will have the opportunity to celebrate the colorful diversity of Neutorgasse and celebrate the Neutorviertel.

The past one and a half years have been dominated by the construction site for the new streetcar line. This construction phase is now entering the home stretch and Neutorgasse will be reopened to traffic on Monday, July 8.

It will then be one-way southbound with a new cycle path in both directions from Kaiserfeldgasse to Andreas-Hofer-Platz until the tramway goes into operation at the end of 2025. The tree locations and the surrounding streets were also examined with regard to the potential for a higher quality of stay and upgrading. Many people were actively involved in these preliminary assessments and discussions in numerous discussions.

Neutorviertel enters the next implementation phase
The Neutorviertel is entering the next implementation phase with the completion of Neutorgasse. This July, the section of Kaiserfeldgasse from Neutorgasse to Herrengasse will become a pedestrian zone. A temporary design will be implemented as a test phase for the various uses until the tree locations have been structurally renovated and the surfaces adapted. The structural renovation will begin in spring 2025.

The pipeline renovations and the construction of the new inner city cycle route on Joanneumring and the adjacent sections in Raubergasse and Schmiedgasse (up to Kaiserfeldgasse) are already being implemented. These should be completed by the end of October 2024. The other sections of the individual streets will then follow in stages over the coming years.

Celebrating the milestone on the opening days
As the past months have been associated with numerous challenges, all Graz residents are now cordially invited to celebrate this important milestone of the completion of Neutorgasse on July 5 and 6, 2024. Together with many local entrepreneurs, the City of Graz and Holding Graz have put together a varied program for all age groups. This will be accompanied by an artistic program by La Strada Graz.

Colorful family program for everyone

Friday, July 5: 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Children's program to marvel at and participate in: paper scooping, stilt dancers, high-wheel acrobats and many other highlights
• Extensive culinary offer from the local gastronomy
• Free ice cream at Kapistran-Pieller-Platz
• Sale and tasting of local specialties
• Pop-up bar
• Sales and product presentation by local retailers
• Fashion show
• Special exhibition on Neutorgasse by the Graz Museum
• Fun and games with the Graz Giants, the UBSC, the Graz 99ers and an autograph session with SK Sturm Graz
• 5 to 10 p.m.: Program by La Strada Graz: Boki Radenkovic & Band and much more.

• Culinary offer from the local gastronomy
