Distracted and overlooked barrier: E-biker crashes

Serious e-bike accidents occurred in Tyrol on Tuesday: in Achenkirch (Schwaz district), a local man (60) crashed after overlooking a barrier. A 51-year-old Dutch woman took a fatal tumble in Ladis (Landeck district) due to a bump in the road.

The accident in Achenkirch occurred at around 5.45 pm. The 60-year-old local was riding his e-bike on the cycle path in the direction of Maurach when, according to the police, he was probably so distracted by the surroundings that he noticed a barrier too late.

The 60-year-old suffered several injuries to his ribs and head as a result of the fall.

"The man then apparently braked too hard with the front brake, causing him to fall headfirst off his bike. The 60-year-old suffered several injuries to his ribs and head as a result of the fall," said the investigators.

After first aid on site, the injured man was taken to the Innsbruck hospital by ambulance.

Fall due to uneven ground
The serious accident occurred in Ladis in the late morning. The 51-year-old holidaymaker from the Netherlands was riding from Obladis towards the valley as part of a group of six when she lost control of the e-bike and crashed, presumably due to uneven ground.

"The woman suffered serious head and jaw injuries," reported the police. After receiving first aid on site, she was flown to the hospital in Innsbruck by emergency helicopter.
