Handball by Saka? New excitement about Kane penalty

New excitement surrounding the penalty scene in the European Championship semi-final between England and the Netherlands! Should the penalty have been disallowed because Bukayo Saka had touched the ball with his hand seconds before? ...

Once again, a controversial refereeing decision continues to stir up controversy hours and days after the match. New images and camera footage have now surfaced on the internet of the penalty kick scene between Harry Kane and Denzel Dumfries, showing that Saka touched the ball with his hand shortly before the actual foul.

The user "TheEuropeanLead" posted a clip on X and wrote: "At 00:03 you can literally see Saka's fingers moving after being touched by the ball."

Two hands?
The ball then apparently bounced from Saka's chest to his horizontally outstretched left arm and from there to Kane, who took the shot. A scene that referee Felix Zwayer did not have on his screen, but only assessed the duel between Kane and Dumfries on the basis of the VAR images and decided on a penalty, which led to the 1:1 equalizer.

Whether Saka's handball was punishable remains to be seen. In any case, the VAR should have reviewed this scene as well. This new aspect casts a further shadow over the already much-discussed penalty decision.

In the end, England advanced to the European Championship final thanks to Ollie Watkins' last-minute goal. Coach Gareth Southgate's team will face Spain in Berlin next Sunday (9pm in the Sportkrone.at ticker).
