Fire department rebuilt stork’s nest after storm

The fire department brought the young stork back to the new nest.

The fire department is there for everyone! The Florianis proved this in Andorf (Upper Austria). There they helped a stork family that was homeless after a storm because parts of the nest had been blown away. To make matters worse, the young stork had also fallen to the ground. But help arrived quickly.

A pair of storks have been nesting on a tall spruce tree at a nursery in the municipality of Zell an der Pram for many years. The pair, who raise their offspring there in the Innviertel region, also attract numerous visitors.

Storm destroys nest
The small drama did not go undetected for long after the storm the previous week. Parts of the nest and the young were flung to the ground by the strong gusts of wind.

Help was called for
Concerned local residents informed a nature photographer from the neighboring municipality of Riedau, who is known as a bird expert, who, after consulting with specialists from the Upper Austrian Nature Conservation Association, finally alerted the Andorf fire department. They arrived with a telescopic boom lift.

All's well that ends well
Nest building materials were collected and used to repair the nest at lofty heights. The young stork - which fortunately remained unharmed - was transported to the top and received by its parents, at first skeptically, but then all the more joyfully.
