Knife attack in school playground: teacher seriously injured

There was a knife attack in the playground of an adult education center in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. A teacher (67) was seriously injured and his life is in danger. Two suspects were arrested on Friday evening. 

The attack is said to have taken place at around 2 p.m. in the parking lot in front of an adult education center. The background to the crime is still unclear, reported the police, who had arrived with a large contingent.

Two suspects were arrested after a short manhunt. They were a pair of brothers. Both men were in their early 20s - one was born in 2002, the other in 2003. The background to the crime was initially unclear.

It was assumed that the victim and perpetrator knew each other, said the police spokesman. He did not want to rule out the possibility that the suspects were pupils, but did not want to confirm it either.

As reported by "Bild", the teacher was able to save himself in the school while still seriously injured. An emergency doctor was called and treated the man, who was then taken to hospital. Several other members of staff at the school were also evacuated.

Wedel is located in the Schleswig-Holstein district of Pinneberg and borders directly on the west of Hamburg. The adult education center describes itself as the town's municipal further education center.
