This now makes it a sad certainty for Brad Pitt: daughter Shiloh is definitely serious about getting rid of his surname. 

One month after applying to the court in Los Angeles to shorten her surname from Jolie-Pitt to just Jolie, the 18-year-old has taken the next step. As required by Californian law, she placed a newspaper advertisement in the Los Angeles Times. 

"Shiloh's decision alone"
In it, she informed the residents of her district that in future she wanted to be called Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt instead of Shiloh Nouvel Jolie.

While the Pitt camp accuses mother Angelina Jolie of being behind the move, an insider reveals to "E! News": "It was Shiloh's decision alone. She's even paying the lawyer she hired for her case."

"He is very disappointed"
A friend of Pitt's told People magazine how deeply affected the 60-year-old is: "He's very disappointed. He's never been more excited about anything in his life than Shiloh's birth. He always wanted a daughter."

Since their split in 2016, Pitt has barely seen his children because his ex-wife has custody and he only has visitation rights to the underage children. The friend: "He has lost his children and that is very difficult for Brad. He loves his kids and misses them. It's really sad!"

One month after announcing her name change in the newspaper, Shiloh can then request a court hearing as the next step. At this hearing, the court will then decide whether or not to grant her application. If the green light is given, she will receive a certified certificate from the court, which she can then use to change her name on all important documents such as her driver's license or insurance card.
