Flames in Viennese apartment – completely destroyed

The operation in Vienna-Meidling lasted just under three hours. Flames were shooting out of the window of an apartment.

Operation in an apartment building in Vienna-Meidling: huge flames were shooting out of the window of an apartment there on Sunday evening. Residents had to draw attention to themselves on balconies. One resident's home was completely destroyed. 

Alarm at the Vienna Fire Brigade on Sunday evening at around 8.15 pm. A woman's apartment caught fire in Mandlgasse in Meidling. Fortunately, the resident was able to get herself to safety, the fire department reported on Monday. 

Resident brought outside
A fire department team wearing breathing protection immediately entered the apartment on fire via the stairwell with a fire hose. The fire was also fought from the outside. "Several people from other apartments drew attention to themselves on their balconies," reports the professional fire department. The residents were brought outside via the stairwell using escape filter hoods and handed over to the Vienna Fire Rescue Service.

The occupant of the affected apartment was able to escape to safety.

The cause of the fire is still unclear and is the subject of a police investigation. A total of 35 firefighters were involved in fighting the fire. The operation was only finally brought to an end at around 11 pm.
