Police and hunters search for missing horse

The search for a four-year-old horse named "Patriot" has been in full swing in Burgenland on the border with Lower Austria since Sunday afternoon - so far without success. The Trakehner gelding had escaped from the paddock.

The runaway with a medium brown coat and black mane was standing with his paddock mate "Sigy" in one of the pastures around the "Loobfelderhof" riding stable in Neufeld an der Leitha in Burgenland on Sunday morning and was busy grazing when the two horses escaped from the fenced-in area at around 10.30 a.m. for unknown reasons.

Due to its geographical proximity to Lower Austria, "Patriot" may have already crossed the border.

Sniffer dogs commissioned
While "Sigy" instinctively ran back into the stable, "Patriot" ran off and, according to an eyewitness, galloped across the fields towards Steinbrunn.

In order to catch the young gelding, his owner Julia Wenninger, who was not present in the stable at the time and had been informed of the incident by telephone, immediately called the police, fire department and hunters. The dog squadron was also deployed, but had to abandon their work.

The rain and thunderstorms that have been falling repeatedly since Sunday are making the search for the runaway more difficult.

Even the hunters who combed the border area between Burgenland and Lower Austria during the night hours have not yet seen the wandering "Patriot".

Anyone who comes across the horse is called upon to remain calm and inform the police immediately. Only then will it be possible to bring the runaway animal home safely.
