After a scorching hot summer's day, thunderstorms, some of them with hail, broke out in parts of Tyrol on Monday evening. An ÖBB train was still stuck between Innsbruck and Seefeld several hours later.

The storm front approached the Tyrolean central region from the southwest in the evening. In the early evening, it moved across the Inn Valley, for example over Zirl, before the focus shifted to the Karwendel. Some of the heavy rain was accompanied by hail and lightning.

Roads were relocated
According to initial information, the road between Pfunds and Landeck had to be closed in both directions, but the road was soon clear again. The Pitztal Landesstraße was also no longer passable due to a mudslide.

ÖBB train stuck
On the Mittenwald line between Innsbruck and Reith near Seefeld, an ÖBB train was unable to continue its journey due to the effects of the storm. The plan to allow passengers to change to a train in the opposite direction was not possible due to further minor mudslides.

"The area cannot be reached by vehicles, which makes evacuation more difficult," said ÖBB spokesman Christoph Gasser-Mair. In the end, there was a sigh of relief: after restoring the interrupted power supply, repairing the major damage and checking the train set, it was decided that the train could drive back to Innsbruck Westbahnhof on its own. There, the passengers were handed over to the emergency services as a precaution. Around 40 passengers were affected.

Federal highway between Innsbruck and Zirl closed
Due to several mudslides, the Tyrolean main road between Innsbruck and Zirl is also closed at least until Tuesday. However, a detour via the Inntal highway is possible.

More than 100 fire department operations
The situation calmed down later in the evening. By 10 p.m., around 130 fire department operations had been recorded, 90 of which were in the Innsbruck-Land district. There were 47 in Kematen alone.
