Enraged citizens: “Let him earn 2000 euros”

Even two days after the much-criticized video of Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) was leaked, the outrage continues. Citizens in Vienna are now joining the discussion with krone.tv - and hardly have a good word to say about it.

Criticism across the entire domestic political spectrum, malice in the social media - the domestic political debate is currently completely overshadowed by the chancellor's controversial statements on child poverty and part-time working conditions for women. As the survey on the street now shows, there is hardly any understanding for Nehammer's position.

"You can see that this is a politician who has no idea about reality," is how one passer-by sums up the statements - she thinks that "an apology would be in order". "We have so much poverty in Austria, they should deal with it for once," adds another, downright angry.

Kogler relativizes, FPÖ wants new elections
On Friday, Vice-Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) also commented on the published video footage. "These statements were of course far removed from the realities of these women's lives," Kogler told journalists in Vienna. Nevertheless, he praised the government's work in combating poverty, as he emphasized.

The FPÖ was not satisfied with this, however, saying that the video showed Nehammer's "deepest hatred of his own people", said General Secretary Michael Schnedlitz, who also believes that new elections are essential as a result.
