Bomb alert in Innsbruck! As the police confirmed at the request of the "Krone", a large-scale operation was carried out on Wednesday morning due to a possible bomb planted in an apartment. The building was evacuated. The residents were allowed back into their apartments a good two hours later.

At around 7.20 a.m., the alarm bells rang at the Innsbruck police station. An emergency call was received reporting that a bomb had been planted in an apartment in Wopfnerstraße. A short time later, numerous emergency services were already standing outside the residential building.

The residents had to leave their apartments.

Building evacuated, possible "fake call"
"The building was then evacuated and the operation is still ongoing," police press spokesman Christian Viehweider told the Krone at around 8.30 am.

Further information about the caller was not yet available. "The investigation into the unknown caller is ongoing," the police said. It appears to have been a "fake caller".

The all-clear was given at around 9 a.m. and the residents were able to return to their homes. Special police forces were deployed with the support of an explosives detection dog and the Cobra task force.

Back in June, a similar case turned into a major police operation. At that time, Innsbruck's main railway station was closed due to a bomb threat and a large area was evacuated. However, no bomb was found.
