Owner “pushed” burning e-boat onto the lake

The fire department towed the burning boat to a safe place.

In the early hours of the morning, an electric boat suddenly caught fire in a marina near Sekirn on Lake Wörthersee. The owner pushed it out onto the lake, probably to prevent greater damage.

The marina at the Aenea Designhotel has space for almost 30 boats. One of them caught fire early on Wednesday morning for as yet unexplained reasons. "The owner himself alerted the fire department. But he pushed the boat out onto the lake," reports head of operations Pierre Happe, Reifnitz fire brigade. "Together with the Keutschach fire brigade, we set out with emergency vehicles and boats."

The fire was brought under control on the shore.

The electric boat was lifted ashore using the crane vehicle from the Klagenfurt fire department.

The fire department was able to quickly catch the burning boat again. "We then towed it to the jetty off Reifnitz and called in the Klagenfurt professional fire department for support," Happe continues. "We are using a crane vehicle to lift the burning electric boat out of the water," confirms OBR Helmut Unterluggauer from the professional fire department.

Once the boat is on land, the fire can be extinguished - always a challenge with fires involving batteries. According to fire investigators, the reason for the fire was probably a defect in the charging process - the damage amounts to a six-figure euro sum.
