Katie Holmes: It’s so hard to say goodbye to Suri

It won't be an easy farewell, but Katie Holmes is still incredibly "proud" of her daughter Suri. The 18-year-old will soon be going to college. The actress has now revealed how she feels about her daughter leaving home. 

Suri Cruise will be attending Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the fall. For her celebrity mom Katie Holmes, this means a time of upheaval.

Holmes "proud" of her daughter
In a rare comment about her daughter, the 45-year-old told "Town and Country" magazine: "I'm proud of my daughter. Of course I'll miss being around her, but I'm really proud of her and I'm happy."

Suri's father is Hollywood star Tom Cruise, to whom Katie was married from 2006 to 2012. Suri no longer has any contact with him. But her mother is all the more pleased that her daughter will get to know college life. 

She has fond memories of her own time at Columbia University, Holmes continued. "I remember that age, that time of beginnings. It's exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it that way," she chats away.

Lots of time for book club
When asked how her life will change, she jokes: "The members of my book club will be annoyed when they hear from me. I'll say: 'We meet once a week'."

In June, Katie Holmes revealed her plans to launch a career as an author. "I'd like to keep writing and directing my own movies. Maybe write a few books too - fiction," she told The Sunday Times newspaper.
