Woman attacked police with a knife – shot dead

On Monday evening, the police shot and killed a mentally ill woman (31) in Munich.

A woman was shot dead by police in a supermarket in Munich on Monday evening. She had previously attacked the officers with a knife (see video above). It has since been revealed that the woman was 31 years old and probably mentally ill.

The police were alerted to an assault at another location on Monday, it was reported. A witness had claimed to have witnessed an assault at Goetheplatz in Munich. She then followed the suspect into the subway and then into a supermarket.

Threatened police officers
When the suspect saw the four police officers, she suddenly pulled out a knife and threatened them "at a distance of a few meters." According to the officers, the woman did not respond to their request to put the weapon down. The police then first used a pepper spray and finally her weapon. "It was a very short period of time, it was a very dynamic sequence of events," said a police spokesman. Two of the four officers fired a total of four shots.

The suspect was hit several times and died at the scene. The supermarket and the street in front of it were temporarily closed for forensics. The woman's body was autopsied on Tuesday.

Under the influence of drugs?
Details about the 31-year-old have since emerged. According to a Munich police spokesman, she had already had several previous incidents and had been admitted to a psychiatric ward three times by the police. She was also known for drug-related offenses. It was not initially known whether she was under the influence of drugs when the shots were fired on Monday evening.

It was also initially unclear what assault she had allegedly committed. She is said to have argued with a man. The Bavarian State Office of Criminal Investigation and the public prosecutor's office are now investigating whether the use of the police firearm was lawful. This is standard procedure. So far, witnesses have been questioned and video recordings have been secured.
