Apartment in flames: Graz man rescued from balcony

The apartment on the third floor was on fire.

Dramatic operation by the Graz professional fire department on Friday night: an apartment in Karlauerstraße was on fire, a man (32) was rescued from the balcony. However, a cat died in the fire.

Shortly after 3 a.m., the Graz professional fire department was called to Karlauerstraße in the Gries district. A room was on fire in an apartment on the third floor and a man had fled from the flames onto the balcony. There was acute danger!

The 32-year-old man from Graz was quickly rescued with an extension ladder and looked after until the ambulance arrived. He was taken to Graz Regional Hospital with suspected smoke inhalation. The fire itself was fought using heavy breathing apparatus, and after just a few minutes the fire was declared "out". A dead cat was then found; it had died in the fire.

Apartment badly damaged
The firefighters were busy extinguishing and securing the fire until the early hours of the morning. A total of 27 firefighters were on site.

The apartment is badly damaged and is currently uninhabitable. The remaining residents of the apartment building were asked by the fire department to leave their apartments temporarily. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
