Exactly four weeks after an armed bank robbery in Innsbruck's Reichenau district, the police were able to track down and arrest a suspect. He is said to be a 68-year-old local man. The "robber grandpa" fled the scene on an e-scooter.

The bank robbery at the Sparkasse branch took place on July 26. Shortly after 8 a.m., a masked perpetrator armed with a silver pistol marched into the bank and demanded cash in English. After an employee handed over the money to the robber, he made off on an e-scooter.

A search was immediately launched - including a police helicopter circling over the entire city - but was unsuccessful.

Investigations and leads led to senior citizen
On Friday, exactly four weeks after the robbery, the police announced the arrest of a suspect. According to investigators from the Provincial Criminal Police Office, the suspect is a 68-year-old local man.

On Thursday, a suspect was arrested in his apartment in Innsbruck.

The alleged perpetrator was arrested in his apartment in Innsbruck. "The investigative measures and the evaluation of evidence led to the 68-year-old", the investigators continued.

However, the suspect claims to have nothing to do with the robbery: "He has not confessed." By order of the public prosecutor's office, the man was sent to Innsbruck prison.
