“The Last of Us Part 2” & Co.: The games in June

The wait is over: "The Last of Us Part 2", not only the eagerly awaited sequel to the successful action adventure game, but also one of the last major exclusive titles for Sony's PS4, will be released on June 19. Our monthly preview reveals which other games gamers can look forward to in June.

The month gets off to an action-packed start on June 2 when 'League of Legends' developer Riot Games releases its free-to-play tactical shooter 'Valorant' for PC. The title, which is often described as a mix of "Counter Strike" and "Overwatch", pits two teams of five players against each other.

The action is still tactical, albeit much calmer, in "51 Worldwide Games", which will be released for the Switch on June 5. It includes well-known board games such as chess, mahjongg and backgammon as well as other classic games (bowling, golf, darts, air field hockey, etc.) from all over the world. With "The Outer Worlds", Private Division's celebrated action role-playing game for the Nintendo console will also be released at the same time.

Real-time strategy fans can also look forward to the "Command & Conquer Remastered Collection". 25 years after the release of the genre-defining original, the new edition for PC comes with high-resolution 4K graphics, a revised multiplayer mode and modernized user interfaces.

There will also be a reunion with old acquaintances on June 16, when THQ Nordic brings its tactical stealth game "Desperados 3" to PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The prequel to the 2001 classic "Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive" sends gunslinger John Cooper and his four companions on a journey through the Wild West that culminates in a "dramatic showdown", as the publisher promises.

At the same time, game developer V1 Interactive, founded by 'Halo' creative director Marcus Lehto, is launching its shooter 'Disintegration ' on PC (via Steam), Xbox One and PS4. Gamers slip into the role of gravcycle pilot Romer Shoal, who commands a group of outlaws on the ground and rebels against the rule of the so-called Rayonne.

Things will get exciting on June 19 when developer Naughty Dog ("Uncharted") brings the eagerly awaited sequel to the 2013 action adventure game exclusively to PS4 with "The Last of Us Part 2" after several postponements. The game continues the story of Ellie, who finds herself on a "mission of retribution five years after the events of the first part, where she must face the devastating physical and emotional consequences of her actions", as publisher Sony explains.

Switch owners can also look forward to "Burnout Paradise Remastered ", a visually polished new edition of the racing game first released by EA in 2008.

Just a few days later, on June 23, another new edition will be released: "Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated" brings "sponge-tastic" mini-game fun to PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch 17 years after its initial release. In addition to contemporary visuals, gamers can also expect a brand new multiplayer mode for two players both online and offline.

Towards the end of the month, there will be some fresh RPG news. Publisher NIS America will first release "Little Town Hero " in the "Big Idea" edition including artbook, poster and soundtrack on PS4 and Switch on June 26, followed by the release of "The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III" for the Nintendo console on June 30.
