Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time in the second free practice session for the Italian Grand Prix on Friday. But only 0.003 seconds ahead of Lando Norris! Practice had to be interrupted due to an accident involving Kevin Magnussen.

Just half an hour into the session, practice had to be red-flagged for a good ten minutes. The reason: Haa driver Magnussen's rear end slipped out of the second Lesmo corner, he spun in the gravel and crashed nose-first into the tire pile.

Hamilton was just three thousandths of a second faster than McLaren driver Lando Norris on Friday. Verstappen, who had set the fastest lap in the first session, abandoned his fast attempt in the afternoon and therefore only finished 14th. The Austrian-British racing team brought a specially built wave wing at the rear to Monza. Haas driver Kevin Magnussen also crashed in the second session, but the Dane was also uninjured.

Crash in the first practice session too
Max Verstappen raced to the fastest time in the first practice session. The Red Bull driver was able to prevail against Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris in the first test of strength. Andrea Kimi Antonelli, meanwhile, had a day to forget - the young Italian crashed his Mercedes on his first outing.

Antonelli, currently active in Formula 2, is considered the favorite for the second Mercedes cockpit alongside George Russell following the departure of record world champion Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari in 2025. Hamilton set the fastest time of the day in both practice sessions.

Verstappen, who has gone five Grand Prix weekends without a win, still leads the championship standings by 70 points from Zandvoort winner Norris.
