Food forgotten on the stove: Neighbors raised the alarm

Without noticing the heavy smoke, a kitchen fire broke out in the apartment of a 52-year-old man from St. Veit on Tuesday evening. Only the neighbors alerted the fire department. 

Heavy smoke spread through an apartment building in St. Veit an der Glan last evening. A man (52) had warmed up food on the hob and forgotten about it. As the smoke spread into the stairwell, neighbors became aware of it and called the fire department, who were able to quickly get the fire under control. The man, who had still not noticed the fire, was taken out of the apartment. The 52-year-old was taken to St. Veit an der Glan Hospital by ambulance for a check-up. Minor damage was caused to the kitchen.
