Ryanair’s new flight schedule aims to revitalize the airport

The Irish airline wants to revitalize Klagenfurt Airport with new destinations.

The summer flight schedule at Klagenfurt Airport starts in April. With 14 weekly flights - a whole 100 percent more than last summer - Ryanair is offering three new destinations and aims to breathe new life into the airport.

Ryanair's new summer flight schedule starts in just under two weeks. And with it, the airline will also be flying to three new destinations from Klagenfurt. London, Alicante and Palma de Mallorca will be served until October.

A glimmer of hope for the airport?
An important sign for Klagenfurt Airport. "After surviving the coronavirus crisis, people are flying again, which is an absolutely great sign. Last February was one of the strongest in Ryanair's history, which is something to be proud of," says Andreas Gruber, Ryanair spokesman.

Flying days:

• London Stansted: Friday and Monday
• Alicante: Wednesday and Sunday
• Palma de Mallorca: Monday, Wednesday and Friday

As is well known, passenger numbers fell far short of expectations last year - but this is set to change this year. While around 41,000 passengers flew from Klagenfurt to London, Brussels, Manchester and Dublin in the winter months, the new summer flight schedule is expected to attract around 131,000 passengers.

Difficult times for Ryanair and aviation
Klagenfurt Airport is not the only one struggling. Ryanair itself is also struggling with economic challenges due to the crises. The company is particularly hard hit by the current sharp rise in flight fees. The company therefore wants to develop a business model that focuses on fair fees, more efficient competitive conditions and a low-cost offering.
