Vegan Nutella is available from Wednesday

From Wednesday, the vegan version of Nutella nut nougat cream will also be available. Milk powder has been removed and chickpeas and rice syrup added. There should be no "compromises" or losses in taste. 

Manufacturer Ferrero announced on Tuesday that sales would initially start in several European countries: Italy, France and Belgium. There will be "no compromises" in terms of taste, the company assured.

It is not yet known whether a market launch in Austria is also planned in the foreseeable future.

"Nowadays, more and more consumers are choosing to reduce or avoid animal products, whether for dietary or lifestyle reasons," the reasoning goes.

Palm oil should be left in. Meanwhile, fans of the original Nutella don't have to give up their favorite; the milk version is of course still available.

Nutella has been on sale for 60 years. The chocolate cream is available in 170 countries.
