Son briefly arrested after murder in Edling

The freezing murder in the small village of Edling in Lower Carinthia almost became a cold case. A year and a half after the crime, the son of the 62-year-old victim was arrested on suspicion of murder and released a short time later.

One and a half years ago, the body of the 62-year-old woman was discovered by a schoolgirl in front of the funeral parlor in Edling(we reported). And shortly after the crime, the investigation also came to a standstill. While the small village in Lower Carinthia was puzzling over the perpetrator and a possible motive, the investigators did not seem to have a suspect.

But now came the twist: The handcuffs clicked for the victim's 32-year-old son. The public prosecutor's office in Klagenfurt had the man from Lower Carinthia, who is presumed innocent, arrested on suspicion of murder. The arrest was made on the basis of a comprehensive chain of circumstantial evidence.

Court sees no urgent suspicion
And just a few hours later, a new twist. "At the current stage of proceedings, the Klagenfurt Regional Court has denied an urgent suspicion of a crime, which is necessary for the imposition of pre-trial detention," Christian Liebhauser-Karl, spokesman for the Klagenfurt Regional Court, told the "Krone" newspaper.

It remains to be seen whether the public prosecutor's office in Klagenfurt will provide new evidence for a new arrest of the 32-year-old. If not, then the mysterious death of the 62-year-old could finally become a cold case.
