Activity Report Association “Friends of the Animal Corner”

The association is based in Vienna. The association is independent, non-partisan and autonomous. The association's area of activity covers the whole of Austria. The activities of the association are not profit-oriented, but are exclusively charitable.

Purpose: Protection of the environment, nature and animal species. Above all, the association strives for species-appropriate rearing, care and keeping of animals and is committed to ensuring that animals can live in a way that is in keeping with their dignity as living beings. A major concern of the association is to raise social awareness and the level of information among the population and to motivate people to be aware of the importance of environmental protection and species conservation as well as animal welfare in their lives and to act accordingly!

Through free publication in the "Kronen Zeitung" animal corner, the association places pets with people who can guarantee optimal keeping and care. The association provides general information and also deals with specific abuses throughout Austria, which it remedies either through its own actions or by intervening with the responsible authorities. The association provides information via the print medium Kronen Zeitung, online media: krone.at/tierecke including social media such as Facebook or Instagram on questions of all kinds relating to the purpose of the association.

Use of donations in 2023:

- Maintaining our cat house in 1220 Vienna, Hänischgasse 16 - a so-called "retirement home" for cats, where shy and predominantly chronically ill cats are lovingly cared for and allowed to live out their lives with dignity. We are currently home to 65 velvet paws, which are looked after daily by two trained animal carers and receive veterinary care once a week (or more often if necessary, of course) from our vet, Stephanie Leoni. The sanctuary is inspected annually by the MA60 of the City of Vienna. Note: It is disclosed that the veterinary care and care of the cat house of the animal corner is provided by Mag. Leoni and the veterinary practice Entenfellner GmbH. Mag. Leoni is the niece of the deputy chairman of the association, the Entenfellner practice is owned by the brother of the deputy chairman of the association. By switching to this veterinary care, the association has been able to make considerable savings on veterinary costs.

- Payment of boarding costs including food and medical treatment by Dr. Franz Pürrer at Tierpension Schandl in 7372 Draßmarkt for older, unadoptable dogs or for dogs that are adopted by the association from poor conditions - animal hoarding cases - and subsequently placed via the "Krone" animal corner. In 2022, Ms. Schandl took in five dogs from the animal corner. These animals are looked after weekly by Karl Weissenbacher, dog behavior expert and trainer from the Messerli Institute at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, on site at the kennel. 
- Food donations to animal shelters, animal welfare organizations and private pet owners in temporary need throughout Austria - annual value: € 200,000. - Financial support for essential treatments/surgeries for animals whose owners are in need (against proof and verification of need) at various veterinarians throughout Austria.
