An 84-year-old woman had set out to inspect a fallen tree early on Friday evening. When she failed to reappear, her husband and son set out to search for her - in vain. It was only a service dog from the emergency services that tracked down the elderly lady, who had lost her way and fallen.

An 84-year-old woman from the Urfahr-Umgebung district went into a wooded area in Neulichtenberg at around 6 p.m. on Friday to look at a fallen tree. As she did not come back, her husband and son set off in search of the tree, but were unsuccessful.

Relatives sounded the alarm
The relatives then alerted the emergency services. They launched a search operation, in which a patrol of police service dogs also took part. A four-legged friend caught a scent in a wooded area around 200 meters from the pensioner's home and turned into the undergrowth on the forest path.

She was lying in the bushes
The dog handler followed her four-legged friend until she finally found the missing woman lying in the bushes in the beam of her helmet lamp. She had suffered a few scratches on her arms, but was otherwise in good health. She stated that she had lost her bearings in the darkness and had fallen. She was then unable to get up on her own. She was handed back to her relatives.
