Man hanging from window sill after fire in apartment

At the last second, the fire department managed to save the life of a man in a room fire in Vienna-Favoriten on Sunday morning. When the emergency services arrived, the man was hanging from the window sill of his second-floor apartment. He was brought to safety with a safety cushion.

The fire broke out early in the morning on a balcony in the apartment building. The fire quickly spread to the apartment and the roof. The resident was trapped in the apartment by the smoke and fire and climbed out of the window.

"When the first firefighters arrived, the balcony was already on fire and the man was hanging out of the window, just clinging to the window sill. He was persuaded to hold on by shouts and was finally able to drop into a quickly set up fire department jumping cushion," reported the fire department.

Breathing apparatus teams from the professional fire department extinguished the fire with two extinguishing lines and checked the neighboring apartments. The resident received emergency medical treatment from the Vienna Rescue Service and was then taken to hospital.
