Fewer women on the management boards of companies listed on the stock exchange

The already low proportion of women in Austrian companies listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange is currently declining: out of 194 board members in 56 Austrian companies, only 23 are currently female. The proportion of women has fallen from 12.4 to 11.9 percent. More than half of the companies even have an all-male board of directors

In the last corresponding survey conducted by the consulting firm EY at the beginning of the year, 24 out of 202 board members were women. 59 percent of companies even have exclusively male board members.

Only one woman at the top of the board
The only female CEO of a listed company is currently Radka Doehring from Immofinanz. Herta Stockbauer from BKS (Bank für Kärnten und Steiermark) recently retired.

If there are women on management boards, they usually hold the position of Chief Financial Officer. The proportion of female board members is highest in the real estate sector at 21.4 percent. There are no women on the boards of the automotive, telecommunications and transport & logistics sectors.

The proportion of female board members has tripled in the last ten years from 4.1 percent to 12 percent, while the proportion of female supervisory board members has risen from 17.1 percent to 31.5 percent - thanks to the introduction of the 30 percent gender quota. There are at least two women on 68% of supervisory boards, but no more than one on any board.
