Wrong-way driver was drunk at the time of the fatal accident

The driver in the fatal wrong-way driver accident on the A1 near Vorchdorf on Saturday night was probably drunk as a skunk. At least that is what the first police report available to the public prosecutor's office in Wels says. The case is being investigated for gross negligence manslaughter. A 19-year-old died.

The 47-year-old was still responsive when the emergency services arrived at the scene of the accident on the Westautobahn near Vorchdorf. According to the public prosecutor's office in Wels, the man from Wartberg had been slurring his words at the scene of the accident and had also admitted to the police that he had consumed alcohol.

However, the man from Kirchdorf was too badly injured for an alcohol test. Blood was therefore taken from him in hospital. The result is still pending.

19-year-old had no chance
At 2 a.m., the wrong-way driver (47) from Wartberg an der Krems caused a serious accident on the Westautobahn: he crashed with full force into the oncoming car of a 19-year-old from Allhaming. The boy died two hours later in hospital.
