Three houses remain closed after collapse

A week ago, two Syrian asylum seekers were struck and fatally injured by collapsed ceiling parts while working in a listed building in Schärding. The affected building and the two neighboring houses remain officially closed.

As it is "not responsible" to enter the building from a structural and safety point of view, not only the building on Schärding's town square affected by the vault collapse remains closed, but also the two neighboring houses. However, residents will be able to enter the buildings this week under special precautions and retrieve important utensils. In the meantime, talks with the building owner and the Federal Monuments Office are continuing at full speed. 

When these many discussions can be concluded depends on many factors and it is therefore not possible to give an exact time estimate.

New location for bookshop
"On a positive note, the Schachinger bookshop has already found a new location in the city center, which it will be able to move into in the coming weeks," says Mayor Günter Streicher. It is also reported that at the time of the accident, the building authorities were not aware of, had not been notified of or applied for any measures requiring notification or approval.
