School evacuated due to bomb threat

The Karlhof School in Linz-Urfahr had to be evacuated and searched on Thursday. Shortly after 7 a.m., a caller had made a bomb threat to the police. Late in the morning, the police gave the all-clear: nothing dangerous was found.

The stranger with a male voice had alerted the police via the emergency number and ended up at the regional control center. He had announced that there was a bomb in the school in Teistlergutstraße.

Pupils evacuated
A Linz AG articulated bus was used to transport 350 pupils from the special school, the Karlhof School and the after-school care center to the ASKÖ Bewegungscenter (ABC Center) in Hölderlinstraße on Bachlberg. The school building was then examined room by room by specialists.

Finally, the police were able to give the all-clear: No bomb was found in the school.

"I would like to thank everyone involved, above all the emergency services, teachers and educators, for their swift and professional actions to ensure the safety of the children and school staff at all times," said Karin Hörzing, Deputy Mayor of Linz.

Not an isolated case
Bomb threats against schools are unfortunately not that rare. There have already been several this year, including one against the Spittelwiese Academic High School in Linz during Matura preparations, which practically paralyzed the entire city centre for hours.
