Emergency services still challenged by rain

The persistent heavy rain continues to challenge the local emergency services. On Saturday morning, the Flachgau region was particularly hard hit. Cellars had to be pumped out and there were power cuts. 

In many Flachgau communities, the fire departments had to be called out to pump out cellars or set up flood protection. In Obertrum, the protection had already been installed in the morning. In Thalgau, the Floriani prepared numerous sandbags in order to be able to react quickly in an emergency.

Around midday, the Gaisberg circular hiking trail was completely closed due to fallen trees. The fire departments also had several call-outs in the mountain regions due to fallen trees. In Ramingstein in Lungau, for example, the Karneralm road was displaced. 12 firefighters were able to quickly repair the damage.

There is a slight all-clear from the level of the Salzach. The provincial capital does not currently see any danger. However, some cycle underpasses, such as at the Lehen bridge, have been closed.

In Oberndorf, the Salzach reached the reporting limit in the morning. Mayor Georg Djundja (SPÖ) is still talking about a routine operation. The screw pumps are running to drain the water from the tributaries in an orderly fashion. The Treppelweg and the Salzach dam have been closed. The task force is on standby.
