Wiener Linien back on schedule with immediate effect

The subway trains have been running continuously again since Wednesday morning.

After the heavy rainfall throughout Austria, the clean-up work is still in full swing. Wiener Linien was also briefly affected by the severe weather and was partially closed. Since Wednesday morning, all affected lines have been operating normally again.

Due to the storm, sections of the U2, U3, U4 and U6 lines were closed on Sunday night. According to the press release, all lines are now running again from the start of operations.

U4 still running with restrictions
However, there will be slowdowns on the U4 between the Schottenring and Schwedenplatz stations and between Pilgramgasse and Kettenbrückengasse.

"Never happened before"
Wiener Linien employees and emergency services had prevented water from flowing into the subway tunnels over the past few days. "There has never been anything like this before," reports Wiener Linien boss Alexandra Reinagl.

Once the work has been completed, these sections of the line will be running at normal speed again in a few days' time. Wiener Linien also thanked the employees for their tireless efforts over the past few days.

The western line, which has been affected by flooding and mudslides, will also be running again from Wednesday morning with continuous but limited rail services.

"Western line back to single-track operation"
"The efforts of the past few days have made it possible for the 'old' western line to be single-track again tomorrow," ÖBB announced in a press release late on Tuesday evening. Meanwhile, the travel warning issued by the Federal Railways remains in place until Thursday.
