Even before the accident occurred at a red light, a drunk driver from Klagenfurt (40) damaged his car tire on a curb and was only driving on the rim. 

On Sunday night - shortly after midnight - a 40-year-old man from Klagenfurt was driving a car in an obviously intoxicated state on Pischeldorfer Straße in an easterly direction and wanted to turn left onto Görtschitztalstraße at the junction with Görtschitztalstraße.

"For this purpose, he drove into the lane for left-turning vehicles, overlooking a car driven by a 29-year-old Slovenian citizen who was stopped at the intersection due to the red traffic light," the police describe.

The 40-year-old driver rear-ended the stationary car. Due to the force of the rear-end collision, this car was pushed onto the vehicle in front of it, driven by a 36-year-old Slovenian citizen. "All persons involved were slightly injured, but did not seek medical assistance," the officers continued.

The driver tested positive for alcohol and was found to be heavily intoxicated, which is why his driving license was temporarily confiscated. "Before the accident, the driver had already damaged the front right tire of his car, presumably through contact with a curb, and was only driving on the rim."

Cyclist overlooked
Shortly before this, there was also an accident in the center of Klagenfurt. A 78-year-old man from Klagenfurt was driving a car from Paulitschgasse in Klagenfurt in the direction of 10. Oktober Straße. "At the intersection with 10. Oktoberstraße, the driver probably overlooked a cyclist coming from the left," the police suspect.

In the subsequent collision, the cyclist, a 43-year-old man from Klagenfurt who was not wearing a bicycle helmet, fell and suffered injuries of indeterminate severity. He was taken to Klagenfurt Hospital by the ambulance service.
