Shock! This animal crawled out of a Carinthian drain

A Carinthian woman made an unusual discovery in a bathtub at the weekend. A lizard-like animal had crawled out of the drain, got stuck and eventually died.

Austrians have already experienced several animal encounters in their bathrooms this year, and now there has been another case in Carinthia: "Help, the 'thing' got stuck and died while trying to get out of the sewer," wrote a Carinthian woman in the Facebook group "Villachers help Villachers", where she also posted pictures of the "intruder".

"It was really stuck"
The little animal had crawled into the bathtub of her grandmother, who lives on the second floor of the house. The big problem: it was difficult to remove the dead animal from the drain. "I was really scared and it was really stuck," says the Carinthian woman.

Expert identified the animal
As soon as the story went online, speculation began: Which animal do you think it was? Many users on social media agreed that it must be a sand lizard - a common reptile species in Austria.

To clarify the situation, the "Krone" newspaper contacted Carinthian reptile expert Helga Happ: "The animal is clearly a sand lizard, which was probably looking for a place to hibernate in the drainage system of the house."

The dead lizard could only be removed from the bathtub drain with a pair of pliers.
