“Catfight” on the ice at KAC vs VSV

In the Carinthian women's derby, the verbal sparks tend to fly. "Runner-up" VSV is aiming for a win over the KAC on Wednesday evening. A Villach player moved to Klagenfurt this year, adding extra fuel to the fire. 

The derby before the derby! In keeping with the first clash between KAC and VSV in the ICE League on Sunday, the women's Bundesliga, Austria's second-highest division, will meet on Wednesday (20:30).

The derby character is even more pronounced. There is often a catfight on the ice.

And there too, the atmosphere in the Heidi Horten Arena is ice-cold derby. "It's even more pronounced among the players - they all know each other, there aren't many legionnaires," says VSV boss Walter Grud. "There's often a catfight on the ice, nothing is given to each other verbally." At least there have never been any fistfights in the derby, as physical play is generally not allowed in the women's game.

New: team player from the Netherlands
In sporting terms, runners-up VSV are the favorites and have added Dutch team player Michelle van Ooijen. However, top scorer Liga Miljone (Let) is still out following her shoulder operation in the spring. Grud: "We want to be right at the top, but we have to beat the KAC!" Red Jackets boss Christina Krobath: "Everyone is fired up for the derby! With Johanna Brandstätter, we've brought in a player from Villach - she feels more comfortable with us."

Lakers Carinthia start in the EWHL
On Friday, the Lakers Carinthia will also start in the top European women's league EWHL. The away game is against Bratislava.
