Turmoil at ASVÖ Carinthia: Lawyer calls for new elections

The 2023 board elections left a sour taste in the mouth of the umbrella sports association ASVÖ Kärnten. Now President Christoph Schasche is facing new elections - because some member clubs are rebelling! 

ASVÖ Carinthia held its last general assembly in October 2023. And it cast a somewhat skewed light on the largest sports umbrella organization in Carinthia due to its 67,000 members. Bernd Gütler was not allowed to stand as a candidate against the incumbent President Christoph Schasche due to a formal error. At the time, a required signature was only provided by the deputy chairman instead of the chairman himself. .

Now, a year later, the election is being legally challenged. "A lawyer has been called in. According to the statutes, ten percent of the member associations are required to submit a motion to convene an extraordinary general meeting. 47 out of 444, to be precise. I was not the initiator, but I support this with our Landskron gymnastics club. After all, it is the democratic right of the clubs to demand this. They sense that there are grievances," explains Gütler, who is expecting resistance from the current management team.

It therefore seems as though another uproar is inevitable. The ball is now in President Schasche's court.
