Mountaineer (21) fell to his death on the Loansteig

A tragedy occurred in Weißenbach near Liezen on Friday evening: because her son did not come home as promised, the mother of a 21-year-old Styrian raised the alarm. He had set off alone on a mountain tour, which is why a large contingent of emergency services went looking for him. On Saturday, he could only be found dead in the mountains.

On Friday evening, the mother of a 21-year-old from the Liezen district had a queasy feeling: Her son had not come home as agreed. Worried about him, she immediately reported the incident to the local police the next morning. During the course of the investigation, the even bigger shock came: her son had probably started a mountain tour after work around noon - his car was found in the Hinternegg parking lot.

Mountain rescue team set out with search dogs
A large search operation was launched immediately. A search was initiated to locate the cell phone data. As the search area was very large, the Liezen, Stainach, Admont, Trieben, Rottenmann, Hohentauern, Selzthal and Spital am Phyrn mountain rescue teams were called in with a total of 60 people and search dogs.

21-year-old fell into the depths on Loanstein
In the morning, a person was finally found on the Loanstein, a rarely used alpine trail from Weißenbach near Liezen to the 1955-metre-high Kosennspitz. However, the crew of the Christophorus 14 rescue helicopter were only able to determine the death of the fallen 21-year-old when they arrived. The body was recovered by a police helicopter.
