First concrete mixing plant powered by district heating
Recycled stone, low-carbon cement types and the first concrete mixing plant in Austria powered by district heating.
Austria's only concrete mixing plant powered by district heating, built by Alpacem in Klagenfurt's Boltzmannstrasse, has been in operation since Friday.
We are aware of our responsibility towards the environment. The new concrete mixing plant in Klagenfurt shows once again what is possible with new technology.

"We have been looking for alternative solutions. Now we are in a position to offer our customers concrete produced with low CO2 emissions," says Alpacem Beton Managing Director Anita Ebenwaldner-Abuja. The new technology also makes it possible to use recycled stone and sustainable types of cement for production. In order to prepare the residual concrete for recycling, the recycling plant at the site was also modernized.
A total of three million euros and years of research were invested in the high-tech plant. After all, such plants were previously fired with an oil heating system. Project manager Alexander Wurian: "The new plant, which is operated with district heating from Stadtwerke Klagenfurt, helps us to save 40 tons of carbon dioxide every year. It is the most environmentally friendly ready-mix concrete mixing plant of its kind."
Alpacem has set itself the goal of becoming completely carbon dioxide-neutral by 2035. It is therefore constantly investing in the further development of new technologies and in protecting the environment.
