Kevin (19) is an apprentice at voestalpine in Linz. In his job, he creates software applications for computers and IT systems and fixes errors. As an application developer - coding, he creates software applications for computers and IT systems, specific industry software and browser applications.

After secondary school, Kevin started at the HTL, but realized after two years that this was not the right path for him: "The lessons at school were too theoretical for me, I wanted to program. So I decided to look for an apprenticeship," says the 19-year-old. He is now in the third year of his apprenticeship at voestalpine in Linz and, as an application developer - coding, is on a first-name basis with programming apps and troubleshooting them.

The apprenticeship suits me
"I am currently working in the ticket system of our company's own webshop. This means that I am allowed to take on and process tickets, i.e. requests, independently. For example, I'm programming new applications for applications that haven't worked properly so far and assigning the right functions to them," explains the Altenfelden native.

He particularly likes how varied the training is: "Until recently, I was in a different department, so I'm now in a new learning process again. But that's what I like about the apprenticeship, you get comprehensive training and your own interests and strengths are encouraged." 

Facts

Around 400 young professionals are currently being trained at the state-of-the-art training center in Linz. There are around 20 apprenticeships to choose from.
