Apprenticeship as an electrical engineer at voestalpine Krems

David is in his second year as a trainee electrical engineer at voestalpine Krems, working with electrical systems and components for industrial engineering.

After secondary school, David attended the polytechnic college in Krems and then started his apprenticeship at voestalpine. "I signed up for taster days at several companies, but I liked voestalpine the best," says the 16-year-old from Furth bei Göttweig.

David spends the first two years of his apprenticeship in the training workshop, where he receives basic and specialist electrical training. From the third year of his apprenticeship, he begins his work placement, where he gets to know a wide range of different areas. In the second year of his apprenticeship, the budding electrical engineer can already point to a broad range of specialist knowledge in plant and operating technology: "We develop basic circuits in the laboratory, program industrial control systems, learn about various drive technologies and set up different exercises in installation technology."

The apprentices also carry out a wide variety of project work for the company in the training workshop - "for example, we assembled a control panel for our systems or charging stations for electric cars on the factory premises," says David.

Apprenticeship at voestalpine

Around 140 young professionals are being trained at the voestalpine sites in Lower Austria. There are around 20 apprenticeships to choose from.
