Graz celebrity lawyer dies after falling into swimming lake

A well-known lawyer from Graz recently died in tragic circumstances in a swimming lake. The public prosecutor's office is now investigating the case. Was it negligent homicide?

There is currently great consternation in legal circles in Graz: A renowned colleague, who was involved in many spectacular court cases, has died in tragic circumstances. The accident happened on August 23rd at the Copacabana in Kalsdorf.

According to information from Krone, the lawyer was out on a pedal boat and headed for a house where he was meeting up with friends. Once there, they spent some time on a terrace, among other places.

Suddenly, the Styrian may have lost his balance. He fell several meters along with a construction fence and landed on a metal staircase leading into the water.

Investigation into gross negligence manslaughter
First aid measures were taken immediately and the seriously injured man was taken to hospital, where he was put into artificial deep sleep. But his injuries were too serious. He died around a week after the accident.

We are investigating on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.

However, it is not yet clear exactly how this tragic accident occurred. It is possible that the terrace he was on was not properly secured. This is why the Graz public prosecutor's office is also investigating: "We are investigating on suspicion of grossly negligent homicide," Hansjörg Bacher, spokesman for the Graz public prosecutor's office, confirmed to the "Steirerkrone".
