After asylum ruling: judge received death threats

A judge who ordered the return of twelve asylum seekers from a recently opened camp in Albania has now been placed under police protection. According to Italian media, the woman has received several death threats.

Silvia Albano is one of the six judges of the court in Rome who rejected the internment of the twelve migrants on the grounds that their countries of origin - Bangladesh and Egypt - cannot be considered safe due to a ruling by the European Court of Justice on October 4.

The Magistratura Democratica (MD) association of judges complained on Thursday about the "smear campaign being waged against Roman judges". This had led to a "climate of hatred" and endangered the safety of the judges concerned.

Criminal complaint against Salvini: public prosecutors also threatened
In its statement, MD also mentioned the fact that three public prosecutors in Palermo had received threats after requesting a six-year prison sentence for Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini for deprivation of liberty. They were also recently provided with a security service.
