Gadauner Gorge is our “most beautiful place”

For the eleventh time, viewers voted for the "most beautiful place" in Austria on the national holiday. For the first time, victory went to Salzburg.

The Austrians have voted: The "most beautiful place" in the country is the Gadauner Gorge. This is the first time in the history of the ORF show "9 Places - 9 Treasures" that Salzburg has won.

Unique natural monument
The Gadauner Gorge in Bad Hofgastein has been a registered natural monument in the province of Salzburg since 1978 and boasts unique beauty.

A worthy winner, in the opinion of country sponsor Bartl Gensbichler, who as Saalbach's World Ski Championships sports director threw himself into the breach for the Salzburg gorge.

Second place this year went to Maria Taferl in Lower Austria, while the Giglachseen lakes in Styria were voted into third place.

Also up for selection were the Podersdorf Lighthouse (Burgenland), the castle town of Friesach (Carinthia), the Steyrtalbahn (Upper Austria), Ehrenberg Castle (Tyrol), Harder Seeufer (Vorarlberg) and Stammersdorfer Kellergasse (Vienna).

Vorarlberg is the front runner
Incidentally, the absolute frontrunner in the "most beautiful places" voting is Vorarlberg: Austria's smallest federal state has already won the top spot four times.

Styria has come out on top three times, Tyrol, Upper Austria and Carinthia once each. And since Saturday, Salzburg has also been among the "9 places - 9 treasures" winners.
